How to prepare for ABAP Certification

Preparing for ABAP Certification (C_TAW12_70) ????

Lets assume that you are going for the ABAP Certification via SAP – Teched.If you are not aware of SAP Teched just have a look on its site. In short Sap Teched is an event which organised by SAP Every year Which includes Certification exams.(In India it is only in Bangalore).Check out the article How to apply in SAP Teched :

Let’s say you have 2 months of time and every day you can spend 1.5 hour for Study.

(Note: This 1.5 hour does not include activities like : chatting with your Boyfriend / Girlfriend or Office work )

So you have around 90 hours to prepare for the certification.

In these 90 hours you need to go through the below topics:

Topic listed In

Black colour has less than 8%
Brown colour has 8 to 12 %
Red colour has above 12 % cert. weightage.

These figures are given by SAP. For Certification I recommend you ABAP in 21 days + all TAW10-12 books.

It will be good if you go through these books once and i guess 90 hours will be enough for this

Note : Topic like Webdynpro for ABAP and Unicode will not be covered more effectively in these books so you need to prepare those topic on your own.

Don’t become too much over confident as these questions are very simple and don’t lose the hope as after finishing all books it will be child’s play for you.

Also check out SAP ABAP online Quiz (it requires to create an account, Don’t worry it is just 30 Seconds job!!!)

Things need to be taken care during exam:

The last year Exam format was:

Contains 80 questions in 3 hours.
All questions will be multiple choices and no partial marking is there(it means no mark will be given to you if you tick on 2 correct answers out of three correct one).
For a question which has multiple answers, they will specify how many correct answers are there.
No negative marking (I can see smile on your face!!!! )

Tips for the certifications:

Try to read F1 help for all the basic syntax so that it will clear your basics.
3 hours is quite big time to write 80 questions So give 5 mins of time for reading the rules first.
In exam they will not going to ask stupid questions like Which transaction code or function can be used to do XYZ tasks,etc, So don’t waste your time in mugging up Tcode & function modules.

Hi,
I was intending to take the C_TAW12_04 exam and was reading it’s material but then i accidentally knew that this exam has been canceled from all the centers in my area and the only exam that’s there is C_TAW12_70, now the thing is that i have one month left and i have to read all the new material..i feel i’m stuck and don’t know how to begin again with this…any suggestions?

Hi ,
1 month is enough to go with the Study for c_TAW12_70 exam as you are already done with the 04.
The thing is C_TAW12_04 will contain almost 40-60% of course of C_TAW12_70(Advance topics are added into the NW 7.0 cert.) exam. so don’t worry.
Go to sap site and compare the syllabus for both the exam

Hello again,
In the syllabus you mentioned above there is no mention of BDC’s and BAPI’s
but in the article titled “My journey to abap certification” , he mentions a question about BAPI..my question is how accurate is this? Do i have to read the whole pdf including things not mentioned in the syllabus?

Hi,

I’m preparing for certification in ABAP… There’s a section in TAW12_1 where after the dialogue programming they ve a section before which there is a note saying this part is optional & is not a part of standard course….Can someone tell me what is it exactly?
Is the part of LUWs & DB locks mentioned in that part not a part of the certification????

there is a note saying this part is optional & is not a part of standard course
It means that it is not part of standard course TAW12 and all, SAP Provides the standard course based on the books.So dont confused by those words,
Anyway Regarding the topics like LUW & DB locks.
There will be very less question from these topics may be 2-3 rarely.But it will be good for learning and certification purpose that you finish it.

Sir,

I’m planning to appear for ABAP Certification. One of my friend who’s a certified consultant suggested me to finish ‘ABAP in 21 days‘ & ‘ABAP with SAP Netweaver 7.0 by Puneet Astana / David Haslam‘ & practice some model question papers.

Is this sufficient or do I need to do anything more. Please let me know

Hi Arun,
The book on ABAP certification by Puneet Astana and David Haslam is good as it would make sure that you don’t leave any key concepts unread and practicing questions will fine tune your concepts.
Moreover I would always recommend you to go through all the TAW materials properly. Please note that all TAW materials are extremely important.

Hello,
I have planned to study for SAP abap certification and do not know from where to start.
I could see u have mentioned that TAW materials are very good for the conceptional wise to study. Can u please explain me what are these materials and how can I get them?
And to my knowledge SAP ABAP is an 30 days program and is all about 100 to 500 pages per day studies.
I am an average student will it be possible for me to complete this course and take the exam within this span of time?
Programming wise I just have a knowledge C, C++ and basic knowledge on C# and CORE JAVA.
Please help me on SAP ABAP, as I am very new to this and do not have much knowledge on this.
Suggestions will be appreciated..

If you see the content of the c_taw12_04 and c_taw12_70 there is some extra topics added into it.
So check out the course content for both the exam and appear for the exam.

To Answer your question training for c_taw12_04 is not enough to pass c_taw12_70.

In case you are not able to find it Try out C_TAW12_70 certification exam.
As the course content is 70% similar.

In SAP you should not worried about the meaning of the codes.(i.e. Tcode or Certification codes etc.. )
In C_TAW12_70
C= Associate level
TAW12 = Course code for ABAP certification
70 = Netweaver Version.

I am new to SAP, I am 2009 MCA passed out and i coul’d enter a good IT company but i have worked in small firms as .Net Programmer and as on today I have 1 Year and 4 months of experience in .Net. Actually i want a career shift so I decided to to do SAP abap. When i checked SAP Ignite and download all TAW e-books.. Those books are same with my books which i got from the course..
I am planning to get certification.. What should i do ?
Is there any option to choose Netweaver 2004 exam only in SAP ?
OR
i only have one choice.. that is proceed with Netweaver 7.0 exam ?
if that is only the choice.. What should i do ? Where should i start to learn ?

Apologies for a silly question that i’m gonna ask
what this TAW12_40, TAW12_70…n stuff like that. right at the begning of the blog, it was mentioned that ABAP certification means TAW12_70, then whats this TAW12_40, and what about TAW10, and TAW11, and remaining TAW12 series?? im so confused !!

yes, one more question:
i’m working with accenture, trained in ABAP, but got no project in ABAP, as there was no project at that time, so those guys pushed me into testing. so i have zero work-exp in ABAP. now the questoin is that i have heard it requires minimum of 6mnth of work experience to appear for SAP-ABAP certification (if i take this certification without any training) ? is this true?

Hello Aiman,

Its obvious question from the freshers in SAP ABAP regarding the names of the ceritfication and books.
TAW* its the name given to the books for certification.
( if you search in the dictionary you will find the meaning as a large marble , Don’t know why name is given like that but
what i can guess is its the duration of the course. TAW10 -> 10 days course )

Now regarding the second part.. TAW12_40 and TAW12_70 its specify the version where 70 is latest.

huh….. It was nice question though

Commenting on your second half.

Officially : you need minimum 1 year to appear for the certification which includes 1 end to end implementation project too.
But if you are confident about your ABAP Programming skill you can apply.
Please go through the above comments to know how you can apply for the certification.

I am Planning to appear for C_TAW12_70 exam in the month of April.
People are telling that the questions in Tech ed are easy.This stops me in doing the certification now.Please guide me.:( whether to go for certification now or through tech-ed.Please let me also know if there are any difference in passing percentage also .

Hi Seetha,

There is no significance difference between Teched Certification or Direct one.
**The only major difference is $ As you will get discount in Teched.
The passing percentage is decided every year so can change a bit.But Question and every thing will be of same level.

What i suggest you is ,if you are ready mentally go for the certification right now it self.
But if you can wait for few more months like till oct-nov then you can try it in Teched.
( Make sure your manager is ready to send you for teched )
You will get two advantages in it : 1) you will get almost 40% discount on the fees for certification
2) you will get a chance to attend the Teched ( Which is a very good experience )

what is difference between c_taw12-04 & c_taw12-70/71?? is that mean c_taw12-04 is a old version? im now attndg trng for c_taw12-04 for 25 days via e-learning borne by Malaysia goverment. im bit confuse why should this trng centre provide us the old version. Is the cert. valueable for (job demand)?

Hi Marlina,

You are correct that 04 is older version of the exam.
it does not contain the advance topics like Webdynpro for abap and unicode .
What i suggest is finish the C_TAW12_04 training and try to get the knowledge for the other topics which i mentioned like Webdynpro for abap and Unicode.
So it will be same like C_TAW12_70/71.

Hi Raj

My self Sandeep presently working as PDM Analyst ( SAP End user ) in Hewlett Packard Manufacturing plant and have 2 year of experience in the same field. Now, I am planning to make career from End user to SAP Consultant and have a lot confusion which module to choose, either BASIS or ABAP module.

I had completed my B.E in E&CE in 2007 from VTU and also want to know pre requisite to learn both BASIS and ABAP.

Hi Sandeep,

If you like coding ( like C , C++ during your college days ) you should go with ABAP .
But if you feel like doing configuration and monitoring work BASIS will be good for you.

Both are really in demand right now So what ever you select its good only.

Hi,
I was intending to take the C_TAW12_04 exam and was reading it’s material but then i accidentally knew that this exam has been canceled from all the centers in my area and the only exam that’s there is C_TAW12_70, now the thing is that i have one month left and i have to read all the new material..i feel i’m stuck and don’t know how to begin again with this…any suggestions?

  1 month is enough to go with the Study for c_TAW12_70 exam as you are already done with the 04.
  The thing is C_TAW12_04 will contain almost 40-60% of course of C_TAW12_70(Advance topics are added into the NW 7.0 cert.) exam. so don’t worry.
  Go to sap site and compare the syllabus for both the exam

Hello again,
In the syllabus you mentioned above there is no mention of BDC’s and BAPI’s
but in the article titled “My journey to abap certification” , he mentions a question about BAPI..my question is how accurate is this? Do i have to read the whole pdf including things not mentioned in the syllabus?

Hi,

I’m preparing for certification in ABAP… There’s a section in TAW12_1 where after the dialogue programming they ve a section before which there is a note saying this part is optional & is not a part of standard course….Can someone tell me what is it exactly?
Is the part of LUWs & DB locks mentioned in that part not a part of the certification????

  It means that it is not part of standard course TAW12 and all, SAP Provides the standard course based on the books.So dont confused by those words,
  Anyway Regarding the topics like LUW & DB locks.
  There will be very less question from these topics may be 2-3 rarely.But it will be good for learning and certification purpose that you finish it.

Sir,

I’m planning to appear for ABAP Certification. One of my friend who’s a certified consultant suggested me to finish ‘ABAP in 21 days‘ & ‘ABAP with SAP Netweaver 7.0 by Puneet Astana / David Haslam‘ & practice some model question papers.

Is this sufficient or do I need to do anything more. Please let me know

  The book on ABAP certification by Puneet Astana and David Haslam is good as it would make sure that you don’t leave any key concepts unread and practicing questions will fine tune your concepts.
  Moreover I would always recommend you to go through all the TAW materials properly. Please note that all TAW materials are extremely important.

Hello,
I have planned to study for SAP abap certification and do not know from where to start.
I could see u have mentioned that TAW materials are very good for the conceptional wise to study. Can u please explain me what are these materials and how can I get them?
And to my knowledge SAP ABAP is an 30 days program and is all about 100 to 500 pages per day studies.
I am an average student will it be possible for me to complete this course and take the exam within this span of time?
Programming wise I just have a knowledge C, C++ and basic knowledge on C# and CORE JAVA.
Please help me on SAP ABAP, as I am very new to this and do not have much knowledge on this.
Suggestions will be appreciated..

  In SAP you should not worried about the meaning of the codes.(i.e. Tcode or Certification codes etc.. )
  In C_TAW12_70
  C= Associate level
  TAW12 = Course code for ABAP certification
  70 = Netweaver Version.

Dear All,

I have doubts.. Please help me..
In Dec 2010, i took ABAP course, it’s e-learning system.. i learned from saponeworld.com
When i checked SAP Ignite and download all TAW e-books.. Those books are same with my books which i got from the course..
I am planning to get certification.. What should i do ?
Is there any option to choose Netweaver 2004 exam only in SAP ?
OR
i only have one choice.. that is proceed with Netweaver 7.0 exam ?
if that is only the choice.. What should i do ? Where should i start to learn ?
Could you give me the material ?

hello sir ,

i m from indore now i m fresher (B.TEC cs student) and want to do SAP ABAP module. as many person said to me u r fresher not to do SAP certification.but my interest is towards SAP. for the sap training all the leading institute or companies giving training but it is very costly plz tell me from where i can enhance my knowledge about sap.

  provide the job placement.
  Try to join a compnies like TCS , INFY or any other which has SAP Practice .So that you they will
  train you in the sap abap.

Hi All,
Apologies for a silly question that i’m gonna ask
what this TAW12_40, TAW12_70…n stuff like that. right at the begning of the blog, it was mentioned that ABAP certification means TAW12_70, then whats this TAW12_40, and what about TAW10, and TAW11, and remaining TAW12 series?? im so confused !!

yes, one more question:
i’m working with accenture, trained in ABAP, but got no project in ABAP, as there was no project at that time, so those guys pushed me into testing. so i have zero work-exp in ABAP. now the questoin is that i have heard it requires minimum of 6mnth of work experience to appear for SAP-ABAP certification (if i take this certification without any training) ? is this true?

please frendz help me out

  Its obvious question from the freshers in SAP ABAP regarding the names of the ceritfication and books.
  TAW* its the name given to the books for certification.
  ( if you search in the dictionary you will find the meaning as a large marble , Don’t know why name is given like that but
  what i can guess is its the duration of the course. TAW10 -> 10 days course )
  
  Now regarding the second part.. TAW12_40 and TAW12_70 its specify the version where 70 is latest.

  Commenting on your second half.
  
  Officially : you need minimum 1 year to appear for the certification which includes 1 end to end implementation project too.
  But if you are confident about your ABAP Programming skill you can apply.
  Please go through the above comments to know how you can apply for the certification.

Hi Raj,

I am a big fan of your Blogs.
I am Planning to appear for C_TAW12_70 exam in the month of April.
People are telling that the questions in Tech ed are easy.This stops me in doing the certification now.Please guide me.:( whether to go for certification now or through tech-ed.Please let me also know if there are any difference in passing percentage also .

  There is no significance difference between Teched Certification or Direct one.
  **The only major difference is $ As you will get discount in Teched.
  The passing percentage is decided every year so can change a bit.But Question and every thing will be of same level.
  
  What i suggest you is ,if you are ready mentally go for the certification right now it self.
  But if you can wait for few more months like till oct-nov then you can try it in Teched.
  ( Make sure your manager is ready to send you for teched )
  You will get two advantages in it : 1) you will get almost 40% discount on the fees for certification
  2) you will get a chance to attend the Teched ( Which is a very good experience )

what is difference between c_taw12-04 & c_taw12-70/71?? is that mean c_taw12-04 is a old version? im now attndg trng for c_taw12-04 for 25 days via e-learning borne by Malaysia goverment. im bit confuse why should this trng centre provide us the old version. Is the cert. valueable for (job demand)?

  You are correct that 04 is older version of the exam.
  it does not contain the advance topics like Webdynpro for abap and unicode .
  What i suggest is finish the C_TAW12_04 training and try to get the knowledge for the other topics which i mentioned like Webdynpro for abap and Unicode.
  So it will be same like C_TAW12_70/71.

I have only a little bit knowledge on C++. But I am not at all good in coding. Though I have taken admission for SAP ABAP. I have to sit for exam on June. But still I am not understanding that much the topics. Now I have decided that I will study only for the certification exam. Hi Raj

My self Sandeep presently working as PDM Analyst ( SAP End user ) in Hewlett Packard Manufacturing plant and have 2 year of experience in the same field. Now, I am planning to make career from End user to SAP Consultant and have a lot confusion which module to choose, either BASIS or ABAP module.

I had completed my B.E in E&CE in 2007 from VTU and also want to know pre requisite to learn both BASIS and ABAP.

  If you like coding ( like C , C++ during your college days ) you should go with ABAP .
  But if you feel like doing configuration and monitoring work BASIS will be good for you.
  
  Both are really in demand right now So what ever you select its good only.
